The Graduate trainee position in Alba Trees Growing team is designed for recent graduates looking to forge a career in horticultural management and operations. This position reports directly to the Growing Manager and involves a comprehensive training programme that covers all areas of Alba Trees growing operations.
The Graduate trainee will gain hands on experience and knowledge in the fields of cultivation, propagation, nursery management, site maintenance and sustainable horticultural practices. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about horticulture, eager to learn , and committed to contributing to the success and sustainability of Alba Trees.
Key Responsibilities:
Rotational Learning Development:
· Engage in a structured rotational programme across various departments within our growing operations, including strategy and planning, crop management, labour management, quality assurance, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
Strategy and Planning:
· Support the development and implementation of sowing, cloning, and plant management growth and logistic schedules under the guidance of the Growing Manager.
Crop Management:
· Participate in scheduling the irrigation and cultivation of crops, learning the fundamentals of crop husbandry and the application of pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides for optimal plant health.
· Work alongside the Nursery Manager and Site Supervisors to ensure the efficient and effective management of crop growth and health.
Quality Assurance:
· Assist in conducting regular assessments of plant health and quality, learning to proactively address concerns and document findings.
· Support the adherence to industry standards ensuring the nursery’s output remains compliant.
Operational Oversight:
· Contribute to resource management, maintenance operations, and adherence to safety and environmental standards.
· Learn to maintain the nursery and associated sites as clean, organised, and operationally efficient environments.
· Participate in ensuring site integrity, including the maintenance of perimeter fencing and polytunnel upkeep, under the guidance of the Nursery Manager and Site Supervisors.
Data Management and SOP Development:
· Assist in the recording, analysing, and interpreting operational and crop production data.
· Contribute to the writing and implementation of Standard Operational Procedures (SOPS)
Environmental Stewardship:
· Champion environmentally sustainable practices within all aspects of Alba’s growing sites operations.
