Description

How to Apply

We are seeking a farm assistant to join our 1450 cow dairy farm located 10 minutes from Hinds, south of Ashburton.

You will be part of a young and friendly team of 7 and good humour is a must.

This role has plenty of room for an individual to progress in the industry, if you are willing to put in the work. Over winter we run a 5/2 roster and the rest of the season is 6/2 on a 40-45 hour week.

We milk in an 80 bail rotary, with automatic cup removers, auto teat sprayer, protrack and in-shed feeding. The farm is 420ha with a neighbouring winter block used. We use cow collars for heat detection and animal health monitoring. We utilize 3 in 2 milking regime during the majority of the year as this helps reduce hours and time in the milking shed for our animals and team.

We are a split calving farm, 550 in Autumn and 900 in spring, making January and February our quietest time of year. Perfect for summer trips.

Off farm activities are encouraged (sports, young farmers etc.) and your roster can be flexible to suit this.

Your role will include but not limited to:

  • Milking
  • Weed control
  • Animal health monitoring/recording
  • Performing tasks to a high standard
  • Tractor work
  • Fencing
  • Treating lame cows
  • Assisting with calving
  • Washing up, and other general farm duties.

This farm is ever changing, so the right applicant will need to be adaptable.
