Passionate about managing our precious inland waterways for public access, navigation and conservation? We are looking for a dynamic self-starter to join our small team managing the Basingstoke Canal.

About the Basingstoke Canal

  • A 32‑mile, tranquil, tree‑lined navigable waterway through Hampshire and Surrey
  • Designated SSSI, with 29 locks and numerous historic structures, the 230-year‑old canal requires constant attention
  • A valued recreational space for boating, walking, cycling and wildlife

We’re looking for someone with:

Essential

  • A degree or HND or substantial practical experience in:
    • Countryside/environmental management
    • Estate management
    • Civil engineering or similar field
  • Confident swimming ability
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good IT skills, including Word and Excel
  • Physical capability to undertake regular outdoor manual tasks

Desirable

  • Knowledge of inland waterways
  • Experience with GIS or CAMS
