Barton Stud is a commercial stud farm based in Great Barton, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. We run a diverse and hands-on farming operation including sheep, cattle, horses, and a wide range of agricultural machinery. As a working stud farm, we offer students the opportunity to gain practical experience across multiple enterprises and learn how a commercial farming business operates day-to-day.
Farm Apprentice / Placement Student
We are looking for a young, enthusiastic student to join us for a 15-week paid placement starting April/May, with the possibility of extension. This is a practical role offering real responsibility and exposure to all areas of a mixed farming business.
Duties will include:
- Working with livestock (sheep and cattle)
- Assisting during lambing and other key seasonal activities
- Operating and maintaining farm machinery (training provided where required)
- General yard and farm duties
- Supporting horse care where needed
We are open to applications from international/Tier 4 students, subject to visa requirements.
- Genuine interest in mixed farming
- Enthusiastic, hardworking and reliable
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Some previous farm experience desirable but not essential
- Interest in machinery operation preferred
- Driving licence
- Flexible approach to working hours during busy periods
