CPRE Hampshire is seeking an Assistant Hedgerow Project Officer to deliver hedgerow restoration and hedge laying across the Hampshire region.

This dynamic role is full time and will run for a period of 5 months from 1st of November 2026 until 31st March 2027. This exciting project aims to improve hedgerow health and connectivity, predominantly between the Cranborne Chase National Landscape and the New Forest National Park and between the South Downs National Park and North Wessex Downs.

This varied role requires a sound knowledge of hedgerow restoration and hedge laying together with strong communication and organisational skills. The role will require use of a car and the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

To work alongside the Countryside Project Officer on project elements such as:

• Advice and management on hedgerow restoration
• Surveying hedgerows for suitability for hedge laying and gapping up
• Assessment of potential hedge planting sites including landowner liaison
• Pick up/delivery of hedgerow planting materials
• Organisation, storage and loading of all hedgerow materials
• Stock inventory and PPE maintenance
• Onsite First Aid when working with volunteers
• Write risk assessments for events
• Reach out to schools, organise school visits
• Teach classes at schools about hedgerows
• Organise and deliver talks and events
• Design leaflets, posters
• Create social media content throughout the project
• Recruit and support volunteers, especially within the new local project area
• Process applications for community grants (Community Hedge Fund) including assessment of site suitability
• Organise hedge planting volunteer days and hedge laying training days
