Description
How to Apply
Skilled Summers is a UK-based premium summer camp recruitment agency specialising in placing highly skilled and experienced staff at leading summer
camps across the USA and Canada.
We work closely with some of the most respected camps in North America, recruiting talented individuals and matching them with placements that align
with their skills, experience and interests.
Unlike a standard recruitment service, we provide a personalised placement experience. We take the time to get to know each applicant, understand their
unique skill set and career goals, and work closely with them to find a camp where they can thrive.
The role
Equestrian Specialist in the USA
Skilled Summers work with a number of carefully selected summer camps across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maine that offer horse riding
programmes. It's important to us that the camps we partner with maintain high standards of horse welfare, facilities, equipment, and staff support, and we
only continue working with camps that receive excellent feedback from our participants.
Most camps teach English riding, although some also offer Western riding. Previous Western experience is not required.
The role typically involves a combination of:
• Supporting the day-to-day care and management of the horses
• Teaching or assisting with riding lessons for beginner to novice riders
• Leading arena sessions and trail rides
• Delivering horse care and ground-based lessons
Applicants receive on-site accommodation, meals and medical insurance for the duration of their placement at camp, so they can focus on making the
most of their experience.
We also provide personalised support throughout the visa process, helping applicants understand each stage and prepare the necessary documentation.
With the J-1 visa, applicants can also take advantage of up to 30 days of travel after their camp placement.
Working at an American summer camp is a truly life-changing experience. For equestrian applicants in particular, it’s a fantastic opportunity to develop
their riding instruction, horse care and stable management skills, gain valuable practical experience, and build confidence while working with horses every
day
Requirements
Most camps are looking for confident riders who can safely teach the basics, including:
• Safe horse handling
• Correct riding position
• Basic riding aids and control
For candidates with coaching qualifications or significant teaching experience, there are also more advanced instructor and leadership positions available.
