How to Apply
There are various points to note about ‘work experience’ periods at our stud farm.
- The minimum time that can be spent with us is two weeks, Monday to Sunday (arrive on the Sunday evening before).
- Your time would be split approximately 80% on the AI, ET and Foaling stud and 20% at Stallion AI Services centre, the adjacent business.
- You will work as part of the stud yard team carrying out all stud related duties and work a six day week.
- You will be required to assist with the monitoring of mares for late evening scans and foaling.
- We will go through the aspects of mare management, follicle evaluation, post-breeding treatments and early pregnancy scanning with our resident vet.
- Management of mares for fresh, chilled and frozen semen AI will be discussed.
- Semen collection and evaluation will be performed and discussed
- It will be beneficial to have a theoretical knowledge of equine reproduction including anatomy, physiology and ultrasound scanning.
- There must be NO discussion or posting on internet/social networking sites of cases or other details from the stud outside of the stud farm.
- There is no financial charge for coming and therefore no financial remuneration either.
- Accommodation: single shared accommodation is available (usually), free of charge; you have to provide your own food, duvet, bed linen and towels. Clothes washing facilities are provided.
- You need to bring outdoor working clothes including wellington boots and a strong pair of walking type boots.
- Health and Safety Policy: you will agree to read, fully understand, implement and abide to the policy.

- Cancellation on booked dates, can only be done with minimum of three months’ notice; less than three months’ notice you are required to provide a suitable replacement.
