How to Apply
Paddock Farm is home to a herd of 100% pasture-fed Hereford cattle, a herd of Tamworth pigs, a flock of super-free-range chickens and a market garden growing no-dig vegetables. Our farming system incorporates regenerative techniques to produce delicious, nutrient-dense food.
We a run a pasture-based system; rotating our cattle, pigs and chickens across grass and herbal leys. We’re proud to be taking an agroecological approach, incorporating grazed forage into all of our animals, building soils and capturing carbon as part of our farming system.
The role
We’re looking for a stock person to work across multiple enterprises, attending to the daily and seasonal requirements of our livestock.
We have good handling facilities and modern, well-maintained machinery and equipment. We’re constantly aiming to improve our agroecological farming system, working to produce high quality products for distribution though our butchery business. It’s a unique opportunity to work as part of a farm team with a direct link to our butchery.
The work involves:
·Moving, feeding and attending to cattle, pigs and chickens
·Setting up and moving portable electric fencing and water infrastructure
·Daily livestock stewardship including medication administration where necessary
·Cleaning and routine maintenance of farm machinery and equipment
·Attending livestock guardian dogs
·Contributing to seasonal requirements on the farm: calving, bale carting, muck moving, livestock turn-out etc
·Assisting on other farm enterprises; market garden, compost making, agroforestry etc
The role is diverse and changes throughout the year. During the grazing season (March-November) the role will require attending to cattle, pigs and chickens out on pasture. There will be daily moves of cattle, pigs and chickens along with their electric fencing and drinking troughs. During the winter much of the livestock is housed so there is more yard work.
