Description
How to Apply
We are seeking a placement student to join our forward-thinking, ambitious and friendly pasture-based dairy farm located on the Herefordshire-Powys border.
Our farm
We farm 600 acres of grassland between Presteigne and Knighton on the Welsh Borders, running a 500 cow Jersey-Friesian cross-bred herd.
Calving begins in late February in a 10-week block; the cows are out grazing until the first weeks in November, then kept in cubicles and milked until late December.
Milking is done through a modern 36/72 Waikato herringbone parlour fitted with ACRs.
The farm system has been inspired by the best grazing operators in New Zealand, Ireland and the UK.
We are 3 years into transitioning the farm onto a regenerative system
The opportunity
We are looking for a placement student to assist with all aspects of dairy farming, including grass management, milking, silage making and youngstock rearing, with the aim of providing the highest standards of welfare, animal husbandry and grazing management.
It is an excellent development opportunity for someone seeking to learn about grassbased dairy farming, with a particular focus on regenerative farming.
The successful applicant will join an experienced and ambitious team who are constantly looking to learn and improve.
We pride ourselves on creating a friendly and inclusive working environment.
This role would suit someone who is interested in learning more about dairy farming and keen to progress and develop their skills.
