Main Purpose of Job         
The purpose of this job is to provide support as part of a fieldwork team within the Agroecology Group. The Field Technician will be required to assist in setting up and maintaining field experiments, and to carry out physical and biological environmental monitoring in accordance with specified field work protocols. This will include sample preparation and lab processing, data recording and checking, taxonomic identification, environmental monitoring, GPS mapping and the maintenance of fieldwork equipment.

Main duties of post holder

  • Field work (biological sampling, soil sampling, environmental monitoring, marking out and setting up field trials and experiments, GPS mapping, setting up and using remote monitoring equipment)
  • Lab processing of a range of sample types including soil, plants, and invertebrates
  • Sorting and identifying insect and plants found within agricultural ecosystems
  • Data recording, entry and processing
  • Maintaining field work and laboratory equipment
  • Participation in demonstration and engagement activities and events
  • Participation in projects involving farmers and other stakeholders, providing support in workshops and similar events
  • Engage fully in training to develop all necessary skills
