How to Apply

Roots at Thorpe Farm is a family run farm shop based on Thorpe Farm in Barkby Thorpe, Leicestershire. The farm has been in the Mount family for over 150 years, farming is our main priority but we have had to diversify as everyone has, to remain a viable business.

The Farm shop has been established since 2008 when George Mount made the decision to stop selling from the back gate and open Roots. The shop has grown, with a meeting space, animal feed business, cafe and farm pets including alpacas and wallabies. The farm also hosts a livery yard, caravan storage and of course the arable farm.

A family run farm shop and farm is on the Pochin estate in Leicestershire, bordering the city, a stones throw from Loughborough and Melton Mowbray with Nottingham and Lincolnshire a short drive. Being a family run farm with three generations of farmers living on the farm there is always something going on, daily change is a given, a strong work ethic runs from grandparents to grandchildren and the right candidate would play a key role in the Roots family from the start:

 Assisting the owners of the farm shop to run, develop and branch out the farm shop with events.
 Improving processes with the aim of increasing sales and business reach.
 The role will involve admin tasks including ordering from suppliers to ensure smooth running of the shop, whilst developing commercial experience in order to manage budgets and increase productivity.
 The role will also involve marketing and the opportunity to get involved with social media.

We are looking for a self-motivated team player, with a love for food and local produce. An understanding and interest in a working farm is essential. A person with a desire to develop their career and progress into the farm shop industry, opportunity for the right person to make this job their own and put their stamp on the shop.

A benefit if you are able to drive a tractor/trailer. Not essential but a bonus so you can get involved with all aspects of the farm.
