Company Description:
At the Environment Agency, we work hard to create better places for people, wildlife and the environment. By putting the climate emergency at the heart of everything we do, we help society adapt to environmental challenges such as flooding, drought, sea level rise and coastal change.
The Estates service within the Environment Agency extends to 160 people, offering professional support for land, property, compensation and valuation matters. We are core to the delivery of the Agency's £5.4 billion capital programme to better protect 336,000 properties. Our experienced teams specialise in negotiating access and dealing with compensation claims from land and property owners where they have suffered loss as a consequence of our work. We also manage the Environment Agency's landholdings, which extend to 26,000 hectares.
During your time as an Estates Placement Student at the Environment Agency, we will provide you with real-life work experience to support your studies. With your commitment and drive to succeed you’ll have the opportunity to broaden your skills across several areas including flood alleviation projects and land management as well as gaining valuable experience of working within a large public sector organisation.
Job Description

During your placement year, you will be an integral part of the Estates team working directly with our Estates surveyors of varying seniority as well as our project support officers, the wider Estates team, and other teams across the organisation. You’ll be involved in a wide variety of surveying work whilst building your knowledge and experience, including our national flood risk programme, looking after various operational projects and managing a diverse land portfolio.
You will be given the opportunity to attend a broad range of Continued Professional Development (CPD) events to help build professional skills, whilst earning a salary of £22,754 pro rata.
