Description
How to Apply
Cow Hall is a 160 acre organic hill farm in the beautiful Clun Forest in South Shropshire. The farm is predominately grassland with (until recently) up to 6 acres of seed potatoes. Much of the farm is a registered County Wildlife Site and the whole farm is in a Higher Level Stewardship Scheme. There are 25 pedigree Traditional Hereford Suckler Cows plus followers. Until recently there were 70 pedigree Clun ewes; sheep may be reintroduced. Run by Joy and Mark Measures for the last 30 years our existing farm partners are moving on after 5 years with the farm. There is a new opportunity for a partner or share farmer to take responsibility for the day to day running and management of the farm business.
The partner or share farmer will need to be a skilled stock person, have an ability to be responsible for farm admin. and have a real commitment to organic farming and wildlife conservation. Experience of organic farming is desirable but not essential. There are various possible arrangements including a partnership, contract farming or share farming with the owners; there are a range of ownership options for the livestock. Some capital input to the business would be desirable.
It is anticipated that the partner will take a share in the returns, partly reflected by the level of partner’s capital investment in the farm business. The farm is currently a profitable business however the returns are insufficient to provide full-time remuneration; it is anticipated that a partner will need to create additional work for themselves, expand the operation onto other local wildlife sites or possibly develop the opportunities for direct marketing which are available locally.
It may be possible to provide accommodation, depending on circumstances and the agreement reached between the parties.
